When I first became a homemaker, I saw it as a role full of tasks: laundry to fold, meals to cook, floors to clean. My days were busy, my to-do lists endless, but deep down, I felt something was missing.
It wasn’t until I stumbled upon the verse Joshua 24:15: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” that everything changed. That simple verse planted a seed in my heart. Was my home truly serving the Lord? Were we creating a space that reflected His love, grace, and presence?
That moment marked the beginning of my journey to transform our home—not into a picture-perfect one, but a Christ-centered sanctuary.
The Struggles That Sparked My Journey
If I’m honest, homemaking didn’t come naturally to me at first. I often felt overwhelmed by the sheer volume of responsibilities. I wanted my family to feel at peace, but I felt like I was barely keeping up.
I realized I was trying to do it all in my own strength, and that’s where the struggle lay. The verse from Joshua reminded me that homemaking is more than just managing a house—it’s about creating an environment where God’s presence can be felt in every corner.
Turning Tasks Into Purpose
What changed wasn’t the workload—it was my perspective. Instead of seeing homemaking as a list of chores, I began to see it as a calling. Every dish I washed, every bed I made, became an opportunity to serve my family and, ultimately, God.
But I didn’t stop there. I wanted practical ways to ensure my home reflected His love daily. Here’s what I learned along the way:
Steps to Create a Christ-Centered Home
1. Start Your Day with Prayer
There’s something powerful about starting the day with God. I found that when I prayed in the morning, asking for His guidance and grace, the day felt lighter. Instead of being overwhelmed, I felt equipped to face whatever came my way.
If you’re new to this, keep it simple. Pray for your home, your family, and your ability to serve them with love and patience.
2. Dedicate Your Home to God
One of the first things I did was pray over every room in our house. I prayed over each room in our home, asking God to fill the living room with laughter and connection, the kitchen with nourishment and gratitude, the kids’ room with protection and growth, the garden with abundance and stewardship, the master bedroom with peace and intimacy, and the laundry area with gratitude in everyday tasks, dedicating every space to His presence and purpose.
3. Use Scripture as a Daily Reminder
To keep God’s word at the center of our home, I started displaying verses around the house. One of my favorites is Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
Seeing that verse in the kitchen or laundry room reminds me that even the mundane tasks have purpose. They’re acts of service and love.
4. Build a Family Prayer Habit
In the hustle of life, it’s easy to neglect spiritual connection as a family. We started small by gathering each night for a short prayer before bed. Over time, it became a tradition we all cherish.
If bedtime doesn’t work for your family, find another moment—mealtime or even during car rides. The key is consistency.
5. Extend Grace to Yourself
Here’s the truth: no home is perfect, and no homemaker has it all together. I’ve learned to let go of the idea that my home has to look like something out of a magazine to honor God.
A Christ-centered home isn’t about perfection; it’s about presence. It’s about welcoming God into the chaos and trusting Him to bring peace.
What I’ve Gained From This Journey
Transforming our home into a Christ-centered one didn’t just change our physical space—it changed me. I’ve found joy in the mundane, peace in the busyness, and purpose in the routine.
My children have started asking to pray on their own, and I see how these small acts of faith are planting seeds in their hearts.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that when God is at the center of our home, everything feels a little lighter, a little more manageable, and a lot more meaningful.
Encouragement for You
If you’re reading this and feeling overwhelmed by homemaking, let me encourage you: you’re not alone. Start small. Pray over one room. Write one scripture verse and place it where you’ll see it. Invite God into your day, even if it’s just for a moment.
Remember, you don’t have to do it all in your own strength. God is with you, ready to help you create a home filled with love, grace, and His presence.
Take the First Step
What’s one way you can invite God into your homemaking today? Whether it’s a simple prayer, adding scripture to your decor, or starting a family prayer habit, every step counts.
I’d love to hear how you’re starting this journey. Share your thoughts in the comments, and let’s encourage one another to build homes that honor God!
With Warmth,
Caroline.
